The benefit of applied minimalism into your life

Posted June 15, 2021

I’m not calling myself a true minimalist, but for the past 2 years I applied minimalism concept into my life. For me, minimalism is about thinking, doing, and having essential meaningful things in life. This minimalism concept is not for everyone. You can’t choose or force yourself to applied any principe in your life. But you can try it, and if you feel enjoy while try it you can continue or stop when you feel uncomfortable. Minimalism is not mean that throw away everything you have and starve, or must have aesthetic things or decoration in your room, not that extreme. But it brings some benefits on my life.

So what is minimalism?

Minimalism is a tool to rid yourself of life’s excess in favor of focusing on what’s important—so you can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom.

Minimalism doesn’t mean restriction. The goal is to have freedom, not to avoid having things. If by having those things make you happy, real happy, and give you freedom, that’s fine, no one set the rules and you should not strict to anyone rules for your own life. It’s all about your own life. Think minimalism like a tool, a tool that can help you to find your freedom. What freedom exactly I’m talking about? Freedom from worry, freedom from fear, freedom from overwhelm, freedom from guilt, freedom from depression, freedom from feeling trap inside the consumer cultures, the real freedom. So you can think about your life’s goal, enjoying every moment with yourself in this live, your family, feeling connected in relationship.

What did I get by apply the concept of minimalism?

I have applied minimalism for a while in my life and what I get is I found myself become more wise person, more able to control my emotion, my lust to have something that I don’t really need. I can focus my time, mind, and energy to keep improve my skill to get more opportunity to have more prosperous life. I can appreciate more of what I already have right now, my health, my families, my friends, my relationships, my things. I feel that I less emotion when something didn’t go as I expected it will be.

I make the decision making process as fast as possible when it comes to something that not really give impact to myself such as when it comes to what I will wear through the day. I simply just bought simple basic stuffs, t-shirts, pants, shirts. Why? To keep my energy from just thinking and decide what to wear and channel my energy to other tasks and plan.

Should everyone become the minimalist?

I don’t think so. Not everyone suitable to follow minimalism concept in their life entirely. But, I think everyone can take advantage of what minimalism can give you in some parts of their life. Maybe you’re not confident using a simple t-shirt, but you can start control your emotion by just thinking and reacting what you can control not what you can not control. With so many stuff and things we faced today, family stuff, work stuff, self-care, friends, culture, etc. We must control our own mind and feel and realize it’s fine to be someone who can’t handle everything. The main goal is to get freedom and feeling happy and not harm other people on the process. Let me know your thoughts about minimalism in the comment. Thank you.
