SEO Traffic: Simple Steps to Increase It

Posted June 30, 2024

SEO traffic also known as organic traffic, is important because it’s often made up of your target audience. These are visitors who are interested in your content, products, or services because they’re searching for terms related to your business.

I recently learned in depth into the complexities of SEO at work. It’s often forgotten in website building, because usually people tends to focus on design and content rather than the website's purpose—whether to sell products, attract leads, or showcase a brand. Since every business aims for profit, it’s crucial to optimize websites for conversions, starting with increasing traffic from Google (the world's largest search engine). Enhancing SEO through various techniques both technical and non-technical, can significantly boost traffic. Here are some effective strategies I’ve used to improve website traffic.

SEO traffic increase

Use SEO Tools

Two prominent names in SEO tools are Ahrefs and Semrush. My team opted for Ahrefs, so I'll focus on that. With tools like Ahrefs, you can perform a site audit to identify critical errors on your website that you might not have noticed before. On this comprehensive tool, usually you can also find other metrics regarding the quality of your website such as Domain Rating.

Keyword Research

After conducting a site audit and fixing critical errors, then the next step is to do some keyword research. Perform a competitive research to discover what keywords your competitors are ranking for. Additionally, use Google Trends to compare various keywords and identify those with the highest search volume in your target country.

Use Keywords in the Right Places

Once you have identified the keywords for your SEO strategy, it's crucial to implement them correctly on your website. This involves placing them in the appropriate spots.

Make sure to use keywords in every piece of content you create, including blog posts, social media updates, videos, and product descriptions. Additionally, incorporate these keywords into your web copy, URLs, and image alt text.

To boost your SEO traffic, focus on placing your keywords in these essential locations:

  • Page title's

  • Meta description

  • URL's

  • Heading's

  • Image's Alt text

  • Blog post

Make sure all contains at least one keyword that you already identified. This can make your website more visible to Google.

Improve Your Website Speed

Google also ranks your site based on user interactions. Slow-loading images or pages that cause users to quickly leave your site can negatively affect your ranking and SEO. Enhancing your overall site speed and optimizing for user experience will significantly improve your SEO, helping Google recognize your site as valuable. Using Google's Pagespeed Insights you can identify slow-loading areas and pinpoint where to improve your site's performance.

Get More Backlinks

This is known as "off-page" SEO. Google aims to direct users to high-quality sites, so it relies on recommendations from sites with strong domain authority. If Google notices that others trust your site enough to recommend it to their audience, it will begin directing organic traffic to you as well.

This is where backlink-ing comes into play. Backlink-ing involves obtaining links to your site from other websites with high domain rankings. Not only will you receive organic traffic from these links, but your SEO will also improve because Google will view your site as more trustworthy and is more likely to rank you higher.

To get backlinks, you can try:

  • Guest posting on other people’s blogs

  • Giving interviews or expert quotes to journalists

  • Collaborating with people in your industry for blog or social media posts

You can use free Ahrefs Backlink Checker to see what your competitor has.

Those are simple steps you can try to increase your SEO traffic for your website, good luck!
